Department Description

Credit Department is composed of Credit Analysis, Credit Operations, Credit Administration, Credit Debt Recovery, Credit Monitoring and Control

Brief Posting Description

Credit Approval compliance checks, Review credit policies, Manuals, Procedures and processes, Custodianship of securities, Credit reporting, Credit monitoring and controlling of Bank's loan and Advances portfolio to ensure there is minimum migration of good book to bad book.

Detailed Description:

  • To monitor and control all sanctioned facilities in accordance with the bank's Credit Policy and manual and BRB prudential guidelines.
  • To monitor the Business Units loans portfolio to ensure PAR is maintained within the set targets.
  • Credit reporting
  • Ensuring non-automated credit revenue due to the bank is collected.
  • Ensure that automated revenue is well collected and AA contracts are properly set in R14 T24.
  • Correct irregularities highlighted in the last Credit Audits to ensure 100 % closure. 
  • Support branches to recover arrears on facilities and renewal of existing overdrafts within 30 days to expiry.
  • To monitor Check off loan schemes in liaison with the employers or Branch teams so that repayment is received on time.
  • Preparation and submission of Credit Administration returns.
  • Ensure all reports as per the R14T24 report checking guide are viewed and necessary action taken by respective parties and have them duly checked and signed for.
  • Diarize and monitor to ensure that securities are up to date and in full compliance of credit approval terms (Insured for their full market value, FDRs renewals etc.
  • Ensure that any request for release of securities takes into account interest of the bank including recovery of any unsettled fees and income.
  • Ensure that branches maintain active loan documents or files in a chronological and safe manner.
  • Custodian for security documents with Legal Unit.
  • Regular Branch visits to support in Credit Administration.
  • Liaise with branches to facilitate training and coaching of Credit Administration teams.
  • Make continuous recommendations on credit administration, credit policies or manual or procedural standards review and staff development.
  • Follow up to ensure branches follow the bank's policy, BRB guidelines and best practice in appraisal, approval and conduct of credit facilities.
  • Issuing compliance certificate (compliance with approval conditions) under CQ workflow after legal documentations have been properly perfected to facilitate disbursements of facilities in COU .
  • Ensure that the Pool, individual and end to end TAT is within target as well as monitoring long overdue items in CQ.
  • Ensuring that the applicants and direct or partners where applicable are not on the BRB Blacklist prior to issuance of compliance certificate.  
  • Ensuring that securities offered are acceptable and adequate.
  • Keep high level consultations at all times as you may deem necessary.
  • Maintain friendly and appealing communication within and without the Unit in dealing with fellow staff, Branches and any customer.
  • Never to divulge with any information without authority.

Qualifications And Experience:

For the above position, the successful applicants should have:

  • Holder of at least Bachelor degree in Business related discipline.
  • Holder of recognized professional qualification will be an added as advantage such CPA, ACCA, CPB, CFA, CIB.
  • Applicant should have at least 5 years’ experience in banking and minimum of 2years in Credit function.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the fundamentals of the department, processes policies and procedures. 
  • Requires regular coaching, mentoring, supervision, and guidance to complete tasks to required standards.
  • Good understanding and enough working knowledge to complete most assigned tasks.
  • Enough knowledge and knows when and where to refer.
  • Demonstrated full understanding of the subject matter, and is fully independent in their actions.
  • Ability to consistently carry out job related tasks to the required standards.
  • Ability to solve common technical or Operational problems.
